Auckland Council and the Committee for Auckland published the 2025 State of the City report, the third and final in a series benchmarking Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland against leading global cities. The Business of Cities collaborated with Deloitte during the 3-year series to reveal Auckland’s choices, risks, and potential for change.
This latest edition highlights that while Auckland remains known for its resilience and strong community spirit, a slower than expected recovery from recent disruptions, combined with rising inflation and lower productivity growth, has seen the city fall behind many of its international peers across several performance areas.
To stay competitive, the region will need to step up efforts in critical domains such as productivity, business attractiveness, innovation, and the quality of urban life, the report finds.
The report identifies both the city’s strengths and its challenges, and outlines four key priorities to help Auckland improve its global standing and unlock greater productivity, growth, innovation, collaboration, and connectivity.
