Shaping Auckland’s next era of global performance: The State of the City 2025

A shared evidence base and strategic narrative to boost Auckland’s competitiveness, innovation and place offer

The Committee for Auckland, working with The Business of Cities, Deloitte, and supported by Tātaki Auckland Unlimited and Auckland Council, launched The State of the City — the third in a benchmark series assessing Auckland’s international performance.

The study draws on more than 140 global city benchmark sources and spans 900+ metrics to provide insight on the region’s productivity, innovation, liveability and place-connectivity.

Despite strong foundations, the report finds that while Auckland remains known for resilience and community strength, slower-than-expected recovery, structural productivity lags and global peer pressure mean the city must step up efforts in innovation, business attractiveness and urban experience. The Business of Cities supported the research, narrative development and stakeholder engagement required to deliver this platform for evidence-based strategy, convening and future-focused decision making.
